Big Ten football rankings entering Week 6 of the 2016 season. Ohio State remains on top, but Michigan makes its case with big win over Wisconsin.

Ohio State is going to stay on top of these rankings until someone can beat the Buckeyes. And that might not happen until the regular-season finale when they face their biggest rivals.

Michigan’s defense stifled Wisconsin in a 14-7 win at the Big House, winning a top-10 matchup that proved to be its biggest test so far. The Wolverines are showing why they keep getting first-place votes for the No. 1 ranking in the AP Top 25.

Michigan State? It lost to Indiana in overtime. Here’s a look at the rest of the conference rankings after five weeks.

Week 6 Big Ten Football Rankings

14. Rutgers

The 58-0 loss to Ohio State ruined coach Chris Ash’s first matchup against his former team.

13. Purdue

Maryland embarrassed the Boilermakers and coach Darrell Hazell, 50-7.

12. Illinois

The Fighting Illini looked better against Nebraska but fell apart late.

11. Northwestern

The Wildcats finally found some offense in a win at Iowa that was badly needed.

10. Indiana

The Hoosiers claimed the Old Brass Spittoon with a 24-21 overtime upset of Michigan State.

9. Minnesota

Tough overtime loss at Penn State.

8. Penn State

Coach James Franklin kept his seat a little cooler with the win over Minnesota.

7. Iowa

The fans in Iowa City are wondering what is going on after the Hawkeyes lost at home to Northwestern.

6. Maryland

First-year coach DJ Durkin has the Terps heading in the right direction with a 4-0 start after crushing Purdue.

5. Michigan State

That trip to the College Football Playoff seems like ages ago after losing at Indiana.

4. Nebraska

The Huskers didn’t look all that good against Illinois, but they’re still 5-0 and in control of the Big Ten West.

3. Wisconsin

Alex Hornibrook’s three interceptions were the difference in the loss to Michigan.

2. Michigan

There are some who believe the Wolverines – not the Buckeyes – are the best in the Big Ten.

1. Ohio State

Urban Meyer might have been nice by not running up the score on Rutgers.
