Big Ten football standings for Week 9 of the season. Michigan and Nebraska sit atop their respective divisions with perfect records.
There’s massive shakeup at the top of the Big Ten East standings this week with Ohio State’s loss to Penn State. The Buckeyes entered the season as preseason favorites to win the conference, and one of the teams expected to reach the College Football Playoff, but now trail rival Michigan in the standings. The good news for the Buckeyes is that they still realistically control their own destiny. Win out, including the Big Ten Championship Game, and a 1-loss Ohio State team likely gets into the CFP.
The Nittany Lions moved into a tie with the Buckeyes at 3-1, but will need outside help having lost to the unbeaten Wolverines.
On the other side, the Nebraska Cornhuskers improved to a perfect 7-0 on the year and 4-0 in conference play. They lead the Big Ten West.
Sitting in second are the Northwestern Wildcats, who have really turned their season around after starting 0-2 with losses to Western Michigan and Illinois State.
Michigan State and Rutgers are the only teams yet to secure a Big Ten win this year, and both site at the bottom of the Big Ten East. The Spartans and Scarlet Knights have each dropped five games in a row now.
Purdue and Illinois sit at the bottom of the Big Ten West, each with a 1-3 conference mark.
