Ohio State is hiring former NFL defensive coordinator and native Ohioan Bill Davis.

Urban Meyer and the Ohio State Buckeyes are adding a coach with considerable NFL experience to their staff. On Wednesday, the school announced that Meyer is set to hire former NFL coordinator Bill Davis.

Davis is not new to Ohio State, having served as an analyst for the Buckeyes during their 2016 run to a second College Football Playoff berth. He’s now set to join the coaching staff in a full-time position.

The Buckeyes lost former defensive coordinator Luke Fickell recently, creating an opening on the staff. A longtime Ohio State assistant, Fickell took the head coaching job at Cincinnati – his first full-time head coaching position – but will coach the Buckeyes through the Playoff.

The exact role Davis will serve in has yet to be decided.

Meyer and Davis both played for the University of Cincinnati in the mid-1980s.

Davis has held defensive coordinator positions with three different NFL teams – Arizona, Philadelphia and San Francisco. Prior to serving as an analyst for Ohio State this season, he was Chip Kelly and the Eagles’ DC.
