Much like tight end O.J. Howard last year against Clemson, Alabama running back Bo Scarbrough proved again that the Tide and offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin have tricks up their sleeves.

Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin likes to keep secrets in his pockets and reserve them for big games. Tight end O.J. Howard wrecked Clemson in last season’s College Football Playoff Championship Game for 208 yards and two touchdowns.

In the semifinal against Washington, it was running back Bo Scarbrough (180 yards and two touchdowns) that stole the show — especially on the game-clinching, 68-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter that saw Scarbrough avoid one tackle after another en route to the end zone.

Scarbrough, a bruising running back out of Northport, Alabama, saw some carries this season, rushing for 539 yards in the regular season. But he never seemed to fully reach his potential, as he backed up Damien Harris.

With Alabama struggling all night on offense, Kiffin finally let Scarbrough loose. He finished with 111 yards and two touchdowns, and he might have saved the Crimson Tide’s national championship hopes. Facing a 3rd-and-9 from Alabama’s own three-yard line, with the score sitting at 17-7, Scarbrough busted a 12-yard run, and the Crimson Tide never looked back.

Nothing else was working for the Tide, with endless quarterback draws by Jalen Hurts being sniffed out by the Huskies. Nick Saban appeared to be growing more upset as the minutes clicked by on the clock. Scarbrough was the one person that the Tide could count on.

The offense will most likely have to play better for the Tide if they want to repeat as national champions, but as Kiffin and Alabama have shown, they might have another weapon up their sleeve that will catch their opponent by surprise.
