Boston College vs. Wake Forest prediction and game preview. Projecting who wins between the Eagles and Demon Deacons on Saturday in Winston-Salem, NC.

Boston College vs. Wake Forest Game Preview

When: Saturday, Nov. 26 – 3:00 p.m. ET
Where: BB&T Field, Winston-Salem, NC
TV Broadcast: ACC Extra

The Eagles (5-6, 1-6 ACC) are coming off of a non-conference home win over UConn, as Patrick Towles passed for 183 yards and a touchdown and Davon Jones added a rushing score in a 30-0 win. Linebacker Matt Milano added a 19-yard interception return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Meanwhile, the Demon Deacons (6-5, 3-4) were overwhelmed at home by Clemson last week, as Deshaun Watson rushed for two touchdowns and threw for another score in a 35-13 win that clinched the ACC Atlantic division for the Tigers. Wake’s defense gave up 21 points in the first quarter before allowing just 14 points during the final 45 minutes of action.

Last year’s meeting between these two teams was memorable to say the least. In Boston, Mike Weaver kicked a 25-yard field goal to help the Demon Deacons claim a 3-0 victory. BC had first-and-goal at the 1-yard line with 29 seconds left after Wake quarterback John Wolford fumbled the ball with 56 seconds to play. The Eagles’ Tyler Rouse ran for no gain, and quarterback Jeff Smith spiked the ball as the clock hit :00. It was anything but pretty.

What To Know About Boston College

Despite a ton of offensive struggles once again, Steve Addazio’s squad can become bowl-eligible with a victory over the Demon Deacons. One week after a 45-7 drubbing at the hands of Florida State in Tallahassee, in which the Eagles converted just one third down in 12 tries and had 146 total yards of offense, BC found some offensive success against the Huskies. Towles, who is operating an offense that came into the UConn game averaging an FBS-worst 295.5 yards per contest, went 14-of-19 passing for 183 yards and a touchdown against the Huskies.

What to Know About Wake Forest

A week after Dave Clawson’s Demon Deacons had a 12-0 lead over Louisville before giving up 41 points in the second half of a 44-12 Cardinals rout, they received a Cade Carney one-yard touchdown run and two Weaver field goals in the loss to Clemson. It’s been a rough stretch for the Demon Deacons, as they have been outscored 79-25 against Louisville and Clemson the last two weeks and have dropped four of their last five contests. But Wake is going bowling, and that’s a big step for this program. There is a lot of work ahead, but a postseason berth and 15 extra practices will be huge for this squad.

Advantages

Offense: Even. Both units leave a lot to be desired. Is another 3-0 contest on tap?

Defense: Boston College. The Eagles are allowing opposing offenses to generate just 312.7 yards per game.

Special Teams: Wake Forest. Weaver has a fairly accurate and strong leg. He may get a lot of work on Saturday.

Coaching: Wake Forest. Clawson has his Demon Deacons headed to the postseason.

Intangibles: Boston College. The Eagles are coming off of a win and know that they can stick around in this game and earn a bowl bid.

Matchup To Watch

Ball protection vs. Ball protection

In last year’s ugly contest between these two teams, BC fumbled four times (losing three) and had an interception. Meanwhile, Clawson gave redshirt freshman Kyle Kearns his first start at quarterback last week against Clemson, as Wolford did not play due to an ankle injury. Kearns was just 7 of 18 through the air for 126 yards. This figures to be a close game with limited offense, so both units must protect the football and make the most of every possession.

Betting Odds

Spread: Wake Forest -3.5
Over/Under: No Line (as of post)

Boston College vs. Wake Forest Prediction

It won’t be pretty, but Wake uses the experience it gained the last two games against ACC contenders Louisville and Clemson to its advantage, aided by multiple Weaver field goals to pull out a win.

Boston College vs. Wake Forest Score Prediction: Wake Forest 19, Boston College 13
