Brevin Jordan, who is considered the No. 1-rated tight end in the 2018 class, pledged to Miami on Sunday. His commitment further strengthens a loaded Hurricanes class.

While Mark Richt looks for a replacement for three-year starting quarterback Brad Haaya, the second-year Miami head coach and his staff continue to put together the nation’s top 2018 recruiting class.

The Hurricanes added to their terrific haul on Sunday, when Brevin Jordan pledged to play his college football in Coral Gables. The product from Bishop Gorman High School (Las Vegas, NV) is the best tight end in the ’18 class.

The 6-foot-3, 257-pound four-star recruit decided on Miami following a week that included visits to see the Hurricanes as well as top suitor Michigan. UCLA was another finalist for his services, as he had visited the Bruins multiple times. His mother actually preferred that he go play for Jim Mora in Westwood.

But Richt and assistant Todd Hartley developed a solid relationship with Jordan, which tipped the scale in Miami’s favor. And the way the Hurricanes’ tight end situation is shaping up, Jordan has a chance to step in right away and compete for immediate playing time. David Njoku left school early and could be a first-round NFL Draft pick, while Chris Herndon will graduate after this season. Jordan would join a group that includes Michael Irvin II, Jovani Haskins and Brian Polendey.

Jordan, who can impact the game both as a pass-catcher and blocker with his strong and varied skill set, made 27 catches for 501 yards and nine touchdowns in 15 games as a junior last season. He would be the first Las Vegas recruit to attend Miami since defensive tackle Jalen Grimble, who signed with Al Golden in 2011 out of Bishop Gorman. He played two seasons as a reserve before transferring to Oregon State.

Miami now has 16 commitments in its 2018 class, including 11 four-star prospects. It’s the type of class that can help position The U. for a run up the ACC standings. Jordan is the sixth top-100 player nationally in the class, along with running back Lorenzo Lingard, cornerback Josh Jobe, receiver Brian Hightower, quarterback Artur Sitkowski and receiver Mark Pope.
