Cal vs. Utah Prediction Roundtable – What’s Going To Happen

Cal vs. Utah prediction roundtable with the Campus Insiders staff. Breaking down what will happen in Saturday’s Pac-12 matchup between the Golden Bears and the Utes in Berkeley.

Jeff Bartl

I really don’t know what to think about either of these teams. Cal can score but can’t stop anyone. Utah hasn’t looked all that impressive and, to me, is overrated at No. 18. The Golden Bears are favored by 1 ½ points, which I guess is fine considering the unpredictability of this one. I’ll go with Cal simply because I don’t think Utah has enough offense to keep up.

Jonathan Bass

Give me Utah in this one. They should be able to at least dampen Cal’s scorching passing game, and force Davis Webb to throw a couple of critical interceptions. This will fall right in that awkward friend zone of Cal not scoring enough to feel comfortable, and Utah giving up more yards/points than its accustomed. Still, I’ll take the Utes and their stout defense.

Robert Judin

A lot of people will pick the Utes in this one, and I can’t blame them. Kyle Whittingham is an excellent coach, and I think he’s doing a great job at Utah. However, Davis Webb can flat out sling the rock. He and Chad Hansen are practically reading each other’s minds right now, and they’re going to lead the Golden Bears to victory over the Utes. Cal wins by less than a touchdown.

Dave Miller

This will be an awfully difficult test for a physical and tough Utes defense. Golden Bears quarterback Davis Webb should be able to put up a lot of passing yards, but the Utes defense will clamp down in the red zone. Utah quarterback Troy Williams played a clean game against USC, and he’ll be solid again. A sound rushing attack and just enough defense in the fourth quarter will allow the Utes to come out on top.

Brian Stultz

I like this Utah team, though I can’t put a finger on why. Maybe it is because Kyle Whittingham is a vastly underrated coach. It may also be because they play defense, unlike its opponent. Utah wins, and Whittingham’s wife starts her blog again.
