The nation’s No. 2 running back, Cam Akers, has flipped from recruit to recruiter following his commitment to Florida State.
Florida State landed the star of its class on Tuesday night in five-star running back Cam Akers, who chose the Seminoles over Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Ole Miss and Tennessee.
For Akers, Florida State is the perfect destination. He will get a shot at immediate playing time due to Dalvin Cook’s departure and is still close enough to home – Tallahassee, Florida is within six hours of Clinton, Mississippi – affording his family the opportunity to see his college years first-hand. He’ll also be placed into a system that competes at the highest level and has a rich history of developing first-round NFL talent.
With his decision now in the books, the nation’s No. 2 running has turned his attention to helping Florida State recruit more top-end talent and round out one of the nation’s best classes.
Having added Akers, four-star defensive end Joshua Kaindoh and four-star JUCO linebacker Adonis Thomas since Dec. 16, the Seminoles are picking up steam on the recruiting trail at just the right time. A player of Akers’ caliber can sometimes be enough to trigger an avalanche of top commitments, especially when said player turns into one of the program’s biggest recruiters.
With his commitment, Florida State climbed to No. 11 in the team rankings, but has the fewest number of commits of anyone in the top 11 outside of Ohio State. The Seminoles and Buckeyes have 17 commitments apiece.
With several recruits still on the board for FSU, including five-stars Marvin Wilson (who just listed Florida State in his final 5 schools), Jeffrey Okudah and Tedarrell Slaton, as well as several four-star prospects, the Seminoles are in prime position to move into the top five of the rankings when this recruiting cycle is all said and done.
