Five-star running back Cam Akers discussed his preferences for the LSU head coaching job and pinpointed Jimbo Fisher and Ed Orgeron as candidates he’d like to see get the job.

The interview process for Ed Orgeron has gone well so far. Granted, the Tigers’ game with SEC foe Florida was canceled and has now been rescheduled for Nov. 19, but Orgeron did lead LSU to 42-7 win against Missouri in his debut as interim head coach. The Tigers had scored a combined 84 points previous four games. There is something to be said for a performance that produced half as many points as they had scored up until that point.

It’s impressive. Five-star recruit Cam Akers agrees.

Akers, a former Alabama commit, is the No. 2 running back and No. 4 overall player in the 2017 recruiting class. He’s considering LSU in addition to Georgia, Florida State, Ohio State, Ole Miss and Tennessee.

While his hometown Rebels seem to be the favorite to land him at this point, the Tigers are still in the running.

Akers spoke with 247Sports about the LSU head coaching vacancy, and he pinpointed two coaches that he would like to see get the job — Orgeron being one of them.

“Coach Orgeron, me and him have a pretty good relationship, so it didn’t really affect where they stand and how they’re recruiting me at all,” Akers said about Les Miles’ firing. “I’m kind of hoping Coach [Jimbo] Fisher or Coach Orgeron, one of those two gets it. That’s what I want to see, hopefully.”

Many names have been tossed around as candidates for the job, the rumors will continue to swirl until the Tigers officially name a new head coach.

The powers that be will have to take recruiting into account. LSU currently has the No. 5 class in the 2017 recruiting cycle with 19 total commits, but it did just lose out on Baton Rouge native Dylan Moses, a 5-star linebacker, to rival Alabama.

Jimbo Fisher may have dismissed all talk about the possibility he’d leave Florida State for LSU — even with his ties to the university — but it’s something for the Tigers to think about. Of course, if Orgeron continues to lead the team to victory, it may all be a moot point.

But at least now we know what one of the best running backs in the nation thinks about the matter.
