Stanford star running back Christian McCaffrey will return to action on Saturday against Colorado in Palo Alto.

Stanford (4-2, 2-2 Pac-12) running back Christian McCaffrey will be in uniform and is expected to play on Saturday in the team’s showdown with Colorado (5-2, 3-1) at Stanford Stadium in Palo Alto.

According to Bruce Feldman of FOX Sports, McCaffrey will return to the Cardinal lineup after missing the team’s win last week at Notre Dame. The do-everything Heisman Trophy finalist from last season suffered an undisclosed injury during the second half of Stanford’s loss to Washington State two weeks ago.

After struggling in back-to-back losses to Washington and Washington State, David Shaw’s squad played better football in the 17-10 win last week over the Fighting Irish. With the Cardinal struggling after two quarters of play, cornerback Quenton Meeks changed the momentum of the game in the third when he intercepted Notre Dame’s DeShone Kizer and returned it 50 yards for a touchdown to start the comeback from 10 points down.

Meeks was returning from his own injury that forced him to miss two games, and Stanford is expected to get back the services of fellow corner Alijah Holder against the Buffaloes as well. So Shaw and Co. are coming into this conference game with added firepower.

The junior McCaffrey is averaging 188.2 yards per game this season after averaging 276 yards per contest in his incredible 2015 campaign. Bryce Love filled in nicely for McCaffrey last week, as he gained 129 yards on 23 carries for a 5.6 yards per carry average. But there is no question that this is a different Stanford outfit when No. 5 is healthy.
