A college football news roundup that includes Alabama head coach Nick Saban losing a perfect record in national championship games and Oregon’s Willie Taggart reportedly nabbing an assistant from the Crimson Tide.

That was a heck of a way for the season to end, wasn’t it? Clemson won its first national title since 1981 with a touchdown pass from Deshaun Watson to Hunter Renfrow with one second left as the Tigers defeated Alabama, 35-31. It was a magnificent ending to another wonderful season. Now, we wait.

In other college football news, we tell you why, despite the loss, Alabama’s dynasty is still intact, give you a way-too-early Top 25 for the 2017 season, and explain why Tom Herman and P.J. Fleck are the perfect examples of players committing to coaches. Here are some other newsworthy notes in the latest college football news roundup.

Saban No Longer Perfect – As the fourth quarter began last night, it was all but given that Alabama would win the game, as the Crimson Tide, under head coach Nick Saban, were 97-0 when leading by double digits going into the final 15 minutes. That has now changed, as the Tigers mounted a comeback. All good things must come to an end, I suppose.

TAGGART!!!! – It’s not even 24 hours after the title game and it seems that Alabama is losing another assistant. Per Justin Hopkins, Crimson Tide offensive line coach Mario Cristobal will reportedly be joining new Oregon head coach Willie Taggart in Eugene. Cristobal is considered one of the top assistants and recruiters in the game.

Coming Back For More – Don’t fret, Alabama fans. The odds that you get back to the national championship game and win it are pretty good heading into next season. Sure, it is early, but the Crimson Tide come in at 3/1 to bring the trophy back to Tuscaloosa. Florida State follows at 7/1 while USC, Ohio State, and Oklahoma are all 8/1. Defending champion Clemson is 20/1.

Another Buckeye Gone – Yet another Ohio State star has decided to forgo his senior season and enter the NFL Draft, this time being All-American Curtis Samuel.

“I would like to thank my family who has been there to support me through every step of my journey,” Samuel wrote. “Their love and support gives me the strength to keep getting better everyday. I thank God for the opportunities that he has blessed me with, to put me in the situation I am in today. I have decided to realize my dream and enter the 2017 NFL Draft.”

Tom Crean Deserved Better From Indiana

Tom Crean rebuilt the Indiana program, then became a victim of his own success. The school's administration - and the Hoosiers' fan base - owed him more than an undeserved dismissal.
