A college football news roundup that includes Western Michigan head coach P.J. Fleck meeting with Minnesota and Willie Taggart targeting an Alabama assistant for his Oregon staff.

Here’s a question for you: how long into January do you have to greet someone with “Happy New Year?” Is it a week? I feel as if you haven’t seen someone by the second week of the year, it isn’t necessary. Is there an official ruling on this, because I’m pretty sick of saying it by now but feel like I would come off as a jerk if I didn’t. Let’s just make it a week, okay? Okay.

In college football news, Alabama offensive lineman Cam Robinson tells Clemson players to keep their hands to themselves, Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett has announced he will return for his senior season, while Auburn defensive lineman Carl Lawson says he will enter the NFL Draft. Here are some other newsworthy notes in the latest college football news roundup.

No To The GophersPer the Associated Press, Penn State offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead has turned down the open head coaching position at Minnesota. The Golden Gophers fired Tracy Claeys on Tuesday.

Maybe he is holding out for a position at Minnesota State University Moorhead. He would kill in recruiting there just because of his name.

In The Meantime – The Golden Gophers search apparently seems focused on Western Michigan’s P.J. Fleck, who led the Broncos to a 13-1 season and Cotton Bowl berth this year. Per Joe Schmit of KSTP, Fleck and both Minnesota athletic director Mark Coyle and university president Eric Kaler met in Chicago to discuss the position. Fleck is a disciple of former Minnesota head coach Jerry Kill.

Taggart Doing Work – Alabama offensive line coach Mario Cristobal is a hot commodity right now, having been offered a position on Willie Taggart’s staff at Oregon and receiving interest from Florida. Cristobal is one of the top recruiters in the nation, so wherever he ends up, if he even decides to leave Tuscaloosa, will get a good new member to the staff.
