A college football news roundup that includes a Texas defensive end apologizing for comments on trying to hurt Patrick Mahomes and Nick Saban being serenaded for his birthday.

Happy November, everyone. It is hard to believe this weird and wacky year is only two months away from ending. We had the Pokemon GO craze, celebrities seemingly dying left and right, and, of course, the craziest presidential campaign since Ross Perot was using pie charts.

In college football, Tennessee head coach Butch Jones spoke on the transfer of Jalen Hurd, Campus Insiders took a look at what teams are hot and who’s not right now, and a recruit used a Halloween-themed video to announce his commitment to Auburn. Here are some other newsworthy notes in the latest college football news roundup.

Kids Say The Darndest Things – After saying a few times on Monday that the goal for the Texas defense in stopping Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes was to hurt him, Longhorns defensive end Breckyn Hager apologized for his comments.

“I want to apologize for what I said earlier today at our press conference,” Hager said. “I play hard and it’s our team’s goal to get pressure on the quarterback, hit him and disrupt the offense. When I go out there I want to play my most aggressive game, but I’m not trying to do anything to physically injure someone. I have too much respect for Patrick Mahomes and every quarterback I play against to ever do that. That’s not what I’m about, not the way I was raised and not the way we play football at Texas.”

Russell Expected To Play – After taking a big hit in Baylor’s loss to Texas this past Saturday, Bears quarterback Seth Russell is currently going through concussion protocol but is expected to suit up and be under center when the Bears take on TCU this Saturday.

“I feel great,” Russell said. “Woke up with a lot of energy this morning and ready to get after TCU.”

Happy 65th, Coach – Players and staff were waiting for Nick Saban to arrive for the Alabama team meeting on Monday and had a little surprise for the head coach: singing Happy Birthday to him. Saban turned 65 on Monday, and unfortunately for the rest of college football, doesn’t look like he will be giving up any time soon.
