A college football news roundup that includes Baylor quarterback Seth Russell missing the remainder of the season and Oregon dismissing a defensive lineman.

Well, that was quite the weekend in college football. Five of the top 10 teams went down, including Michigan, Clemson, and Washington. That will certainly shake up the rankings quite a bit, although don’t count out any of those teams out of making the College Football Playoff.

In the news, we take a look at the top Heisman Trophy contenders going into Week 12, and offer some takeaways from the AP Top 25 that was released on Sunday. Also, Washington State will be without a key receiver for the rest of the season. Here are some other newsworthy notes in the latest college football news roundup.

Bad News For Baylor – Quarterback Seth Russell was wheeled off the field on a cart during Saturday’s loss to Oklahoma, and the news got worse for the Bears as Russell will miss the rest of the season due to a fracture in his left ankle. The senior will undergo surgery to repair the ankle.

As someone who has been in a cast and now a walking boot after fracturing my heel, I feel for Russell.

Get The Duck Out – It has been a horrific season for the Oregon and head coach Mark Helfrich, so if he was to have a drink to take some stress off every once in a while, I wouldn’t blame him. Unfortunately, defensive lineman Austin Maloata had a similar idea, and was pulled over and arrested Sunday morning for driving under the influence. Helfrich dismissed Maloata from the team.

You’re Fired – Georgia State has fired head coach Trent Miles after almost four seasons of him being in charge. Miles’ record at the Atlanta school was not good – 9-38 – but he did lead the Panthers to their first ever bowl game last season.

2016 is not the year to have the name Miles in college football.
