A college football news roundup that includes Florida State losing a key secondary player for the season and LSU’s Mike the Tiger passing away.

In a burst of excitement over a certain baseball team making an incredulous 9th-inning comeback last night, I somehow jumped up out of my chair on one foot and then landed on both. That wouldn’t be a problem except for the cast on my left foot.

In college football world, Ole Miss tight end Evan Engram says there is no doubt the SEC West is the best division in the sport, Virginia Tech head coach Justin Fuente explains why he took the Memphis job back in 2011, and another recruit has decommitted from the Michigan Wolverines. Here are some other newsworthy notes in the latest college football news roundup.

‘Noles Lose A Big One – Florida State’s secondary took a big loss after safety Nate Andrews suffered a partially torn pectoral muscle in the win against Miami this past Saturday and will be out for the year. Andrews will undergo surgery to repair the right shoulder. A calf injury made Andrews miss the first two games of this season as well.

Durkin Laying Down The Law – After putting a big hit on Penn State kicker Joey Julius on Saturday, Maryland linebacker Isaiah Davis has been suspended by Terrapins head coach D.J. Durkin for his actions. Davis was also ejected from the loss to the Nittany Lions for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Here’s my two cents: if that kicker wants to dish out the hits, he’s going to have to take them as well.

R.I.P. Mike VI – In sad news, the college football world lost one of the greatest live mascots in the game as Mike VI was euthanized on Tuesday following a short battle with cancer. The tiger was a regular on the sidelines before LSU football games and would sit beside the visiting team’s entrance to put some intimidation into the Tigers’ opponents.
