A college football news roundup that includes Alabama losing a star defensive player and Oklahoma surviving a shootout in Lubbock.

It was a pretty good weekend. The weather was beautiful, there were so many good college football games to watch, and the CUBS ARE GOING TO THE WORLD SERIES!!!! (Brain explodes) Yes, my lifelong love affair with the Cubs has finally been paid off with a trip to the October classic. Now, let’s win the whole damn thing …

… oh, I write about college football, that’s right. Forgive me for that short tangent. I’m just excited.

In college football, Fresno State said “bye, bye, bye” to head coach Tim DeRuyter, 4-star defensive end Donovan Jeter told Michigan “it’s gonna be me” making all sorts of noise on the Wolverines defense soon, and you will want to take a look at our takeaways from the new AP Poll, “this I promise you.” Here are some other newsworthy notes in the latest college football news roundup.

Bad News For Bama – The Alabama defense lost one of its leaders on Saturday as safety Eddie Jackson fractured his leg in the win over Texas A&M. Jackson, a 2015 All-SEC first-team selection, had returned one interception for a touchdown this season while also returning two punts for scores.

Trojans Lose Defensive End – USC’s Jabari Ruffin has been suspended indefinitely, head coach Clay Helton announced, due to a student-conduct issue.

“I don’t have a crystal ball about when he could return,” Helton said

No Defense Necessary – That was a wild one in Lubbock, wasn’t it? Oklahoma pulled out the 66-59 win, with quarterback Baker Mayfield throwing for 545 yards and seven touchdowns while Red Raiders quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw for 734 yards and five touchdowns on 88 attempts. The two teams combined to break the NCAA record for most offensive yards in a game with 1,708.
