Taking a look at the latest college football news roundup that includes Gary Patterson going off and Texas demoting defensive coordinator.

That was one heck of a weekend of college football, wasn’t it? It had it all. Is Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson still the frontrunner for the Heisman Trophy after a great performance in a loss? What did we think of the AP Poll rankings after Week 5? In recruiting news, Alabama just got a big richer. Here are some other newsworthy notes in the college football news roundup.

Patterson Not Happy – After losing to Oklahoma on Saturday, TCU head coach Gary Patterson took some shots at the referees and at the Sooners quarterback Baker Mayfield, whose parents were quoted saying they did not like the way Patterson treated him.

“Amazing. We can’t say anything but they can say whatever they want to. I don’t really care right now if the commissioner, if they don’t like what I think about the officials. Talk about sportsmanship in this game. I have a quarterback who writes a whole article about me, how I treated him. But I can’t say anything about officials. Bottom line, I wasn’t happy with the officiating.”

Expect Patterson to see some fines from the Big 12 office soon.

Bedford Demoted – After the Texas defense surrendered a lot of points once again in the 49-31 loss to Oklahoma State, head coach Charlie Strong has demoted defensive coordinator Vance Bedford and will take over duties when calling plays. The Longhorns have given up 47 points or more in three of their four games this season.

Successful Debut – LSU took the field for the first time since 2005 without Les Miles leading them, and then went out and racked up 634 yards in interim head coach Ed Orgeron’s debut. The most impressive thing: this was all done without All-American running back Leonard Fournette, who did not play in the game.

Tom Crean Deserved Better From Indiana

Tom Crean rebuilt the Indiana program, then became a victim of his own success. The school's administration - and the Hoosiers' fan base - owed him more than an undeserved dismissal.
