Three-star outside linebacker De’Morreal Burnam decommitted from Tennessee, leaving the Volunteers with 25 total commits in the 2017 recruiting class.

It has been a rough season for the Volunteers. What was supposed to be an SEC East title turned out to be an 8-4 mark and an appearance in the Music City Bowl against Nebraska — to go along with some key players transferring away from the program, like star running back Jalen Hurd.

The last two weeks haven’t been any easier for Butch Jones. Within the span of an hour, three prospects left Tennessee’s 2017 recruiting class, and that was how the Vols ended November.

On Monday, one more commit was been erased from Tennessee’s board. Three-star recruit De’Morreal Burnam decommitted from Tennessee, leaving Jones’ team with 25 total commits. The Vols still sit at No. 8 in the 2017 recruiting class rankings, though.

Burnam, the No. 52 outside linebacker in the country and the state of Georgia’s No. 9 outside linebacker, released a statement regarding his decision to back off his pledge to Tennessee.

“I would like to thank the whole Tennessee staff, and the Volunteer fans, and all of the people that supported my decision to commit in March. But at this moment, I believe it’s best for me and my family to open up my options and decommit from the University of Tennessee. With that being said, I still think highly of Tennessee and, once again, thank the staff for everything.”

Burnam’s decommitment comes on the heels of his official visit to Indiana this past weekend. It would appear the Hoosiers are now in a great position to land his pledge, as there are less than two months until National Signing Day.
