Four-star cornerback Deommodore Lenoir decommitted from Oregon, leaving the Ducks with 14 total commits in the 2017 recruiting class.

It happens every year. Amid rumors, talk and buzz about potential coaching carousel moves, the effects are felt on the recruiting trail.

And we’re seeing it happen with the Ducks in Eugene.

Four-star prospect Deommodore Lenoir decommitted from Oregon on Tuesday, leaving the Ducks with 14 total commits in the 2017 recruiting class.

The loss of Lenoir from Oregon’s class comes at a time when Mark Helfrich’s job security is still uncertain following a 4-8 record.

Lenoir did not state that as a reason for why he backed off his pledge when he released a statement regarding his decision, but one can infer it played a role.

“I would like to thank the University of Oregon for recognizing my talent and giving me an opportunity to be a part of their tradition,” Lenoir said. “But after long conversations with my family and prayers, I’ve decided to open up my recruitment.”

At 6-foot and 170 lbs, Lenoir is ranked as the No. 8 cornerback and No. 87 overall player in the nation. The Los Angeles native is a tough, fundamentally sound defensive back with a high IQ at the position.

Lenoir originally committed to Oregon on June 23 and visited Eugene on Oct. 29 for the Ducks’ 54-35 win over Arizona State.

He holds additional offers from Alabama, Cal, Colorado, Florida, LSU, Michigan, Nebraska, UCLA and USC, among others. However, it would appear the Trojans have emerged as a real contender for Lenoir’s commitment.

USC won eight straight games to finish 9-3, and Adoree’ Jackson, who is projected as a first-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, personally reached out to Lenoir following his decommitment from Oregon.

The Ducks fell from No. 25 to No. 30 in the 2017 class rankings.
