Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski released a statement Thursday morning saying that Grayson Allen is suspended indefinitely for his latest on-court action.

Coach K finally has seen enough.

The legendary Duke coach suspended his top player indefinitely Thursday morning after Grayson Allen was involved in his third tripping incident in less than a year.

Allen’s committed his latest transgression Wednesday night while guarding Elon’s Steven Santa Ana. Allen stuck his leg out and purposely tripped Santa Ana as Allen was off balance. Santa Ana fell, and Allen received a technical foul.

Shortly after, Allen threw a tantrum on the bench during a timeout. Krzyzewski wouldn’t make an immediate decision following Duke’s victory, but then came to his decision early Thursday .

“We have had the opportunity to thoroughly review the incident involving Grayson Allen from last night’s game against Elon,” Krzyzewksi said in the statement. “As I stated (Wednesday) night, the incident was unacceptable and inexcusable. He took an important step (Wednesday) night by apologizing in person to Steven Santa Ana and Coach Matt Matheny.

“As a program, we needed to take further steps regarding his actions that do not meet the standards of Duke Basketball. To that end, we have determined that Grayson will be suspended from competition for an indefinite amount of time.”

Allen was apologetic after the game, but the ACC still has the ability to punish Allen further if it deems necessary.

“I made a really bad play. I’m sorry to him, Santa Ana,” Allen said. “I’m sorry to the officials who had to call that. I’m sorry to my team. It was selfish and taking away from them. I’m not proud of that at all.”

This is the third incident of Allen intentionally tripping an opposing player in less than a year. He tripped Louisville’s Ray Spalding on Feb. 8, then did the same to Florida State’s Xavier Rathan-Mays on Feb. 25. Krzyzewksi did not take action against Allen after either of those incidents.

Duke next plays at Virginia Tech in its ACC opener on Dec. 31, followed by home games against Georgia Tech on Jan. 4 and Boston College on Jan. 7.
