Dylan Moses Visited LSU For Southern Miss Game

Five-star linebacker Dylan Moses visited LSU for the Southern Miss game on Saturday.

Recruiting is an upside-down, topsy-turvy kind of world. We can all confirm that.

Two weeks after he committed to Alabama, 5-star prospect Dylan Moses made an impromptu visit to LSU on Saturday for the Tigers’ 45-10 win against Southern Miss.

Ranked as the No. 1 outside linebacker and No. 6 overall player in the 2017 class, Moses decided to cancel the rest of his four remaining official visits when he pledged to Nick Saban’s Crimson Tide. To be fair, Saturday’s was an unofficial visit, but the trip to LSU was still a surprise.

Moses is a native of Baton Rouge and a former LSU commit, but the firing of Les Miles last month seemed to have taken the home-town Tigers out of the running for his commitment.

Now, with interim head coach Ed Orgeron leading the way, LSU is looking to make up some of the ground it lost when it let go of the Mad Hatter.

The Tigers currently sit at No. 5 in the 2017 recruiting class rankings with 19 total commits, two spots behind No. 3 Alabama, who has 21 total commits. Four of those committed to the Crimson Tide are 5-star recruits — Moses included.

It does help LSU to have defensive backs coach Corey Raymond on staff. Aside from being one of the most talented and respected recruiters in the nation, Raymond is Moses’ cousin. So, it was a family affair in Death Valley for the 5-star linebacker.

Still, Moses is also close with current Alabama linebacker Reuben Foster. They’re so close that Moses has referred to Foster as a big brother and even wants to wear No. 10 once he gets to Tuscaloosa to honor Foster — that is if he gets to Tuscaloosa.

Even with the visit to Tiger Stadium, though, it would take a lot to flip Moses from Alabama. He’s in a class with 5-star outside linebacker VanDarius Cowan, 4-star inside linebacker Markail Benton and 4-star JUCO inside linebacker Gary Johnson. It’s an attractive situation for Moses to have that kind of talent surrounding him in the second level. That’s not even touching the talent the Tide added in the 2016 class with 5-star linebacker Ben Davis and 4-star linebacker Mack Wilson.

We don’t even know who LSU will hire as its next head coach. Orgeron is in the process of interviewing for the job now, but the Tigers would likely need to figure out who their next coach is going to be before Moses would even consider re-joining LSU’s class.
