Four-star running back Eno Benjamin decommitted from the Iowa Hawkeyes Sunday night.

The race for the No. 10 running back in the 2017 recruiting class is now wide open.

Four-star prospect Eno Benjamin decommitted from Iowa Sunday night, leaving the Hawkeyes with 16 commits in the cycle. Kirk Ferentz’s team now sits at No. 29 in the recruiting class rankings, 72 recruiting points behind No. 25 Louisville (1,762 points).

Benjamin, who’s from Wylie, Texas, is also ranked as the No. 104 overall player in the nation. He released a statement regarding his decision to back off his pledge to Iowa.

“I honestly never thought this day would come. I am [the] type of guy who stands by his word no matter what, but even then, people have moments where they break. There’s a lot that has to be said, but do the words really mean much at this point? I wish Iowa nothing but the best as you guys deserve. I will never forget my time as a Hawk, and you fans were the best. With that being said, I have officially decommitted from Iowa and fully opened up my recruiting process. Thank you to those who understand.”

The 5-foot-10, 203-pound halfback committed to the Hawkeyes on April 18. He holds additional offers from Arizona State, Cal, Houston, Miami, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska and others.

Benjamin took an official visit to Iowa on Oct. 1 for the Hawkeyes’ 38-31 loss to Northwestern. He also visited Arizona State a week later for the Sun Devils’ 23-20 win over UCLA.
