4-Star RB Eno Benjamin On Tom Herman, Texas: I Could Help The Longhorns

Four-star running back Eno Benjamin spoke with Campus Insiders about Tom Herman, the Texas Longhorns and how he could fit into the plans in Austin.

A week before Halloween, Eno Benjamin shed his costume and decommitted from the Iowa Hawkeyes.

“I just felt like I need to take some visits to see what I wanted to do,” Benjamin told Campus Insiders. “Things just didn’t work out with me being a Hawkeye. I don’t think I was the right fit for Coach [Kirk] Ferentz, and it was best that we went our separate ways.”

The Wylie, Texas prospect has to make a decision soon, though. The dead period sets in on Dec. 12, and he’s looking to announce his commitment on Jan. 7 at the Army All-American Bowl.

Benjamin grew up a fan of Oklahoma, but he expressed interest in the Sooners’ Red River rival. With Tom Herman now at the helm of the Longhorns, he’s hoping to land an offer from Texas soon.

The nation’s No. 10 running back hasn’t spoken to Herman yet, but he has spoken to a few members of his staff. And now, the kid that grew up shouting “Boomer Sooner” is envisioning himself in burnt orange.

“That Texas program is on the rise, and it just needs a few more people to help it get there,” Benjamin said. “I’m a guy who seeks opportunity. And at Texas, I do see the opportunity to play early and follow some of the leaders who played at Texas, went to the NFL, and had great careers.”

Plus, there would be at least a couple people in Austin to help the 4-star running back make the adjustment to the college life.

“I actually played against Malik Jefferson, so I know what he’s about as a football player and character and all,” Benjamin said. “I didn’t live too far down the road from Chris Warren. I used to watch him play and always got a great feeling from him.”

If Benjamin were to land an offer from Texas and then commit to the Longhorns, he’d be the eighth commit for what currently ranks at the No. 39 recruiting class in the country. And as the No. 106 overall player in the class, Benjamin would be Texas’ second-highest-rated commit behind 4-star quarterback Sam Ehlinger.

Benjamin currently has 27 total offers, and Arizona State is starting to make a big push for his commitment.

The ball is in your court, Coach Herman.
