Florida Gators Football Recruiting Update – April 9, 2017

A Florida Gators football recruiting update for the week of April 9, 2017. Jim McElwain’s team added two commitments following the annual Orange and Blue Debut.

Two weeks ago, Jim McElwain’s Gators were barely inside the top 50 in the 2018 recruiting class rankings. They had only two commits and were ranked No. 47. Then the addition of 4-star safety C.J. Smith moved them up to right outside the top 30.

After that, it didn’t take long to climb up into the top 25.

On Friday, following its annual Orange and Blue Debut, Florida added 3-star tight end Jalen Goss. A day later, it picked up a commitment from 3-star tight end Corey Gammage. With their pledges, the Gators moved up to No. 23 overall and now have five total commits in the cycle.

But the momentum continues to grow for Florida.

It has taken the lead in the recruitment of 4-star offensive tackle Richard Gouraige, overtaking Clemson for that spot, and the Gators will likely jockey for position with the Tigers for Gouraige as the recruiting cycle continues.

Clemson is also Florida’s main competition for 4-star wide receiver Jacob Copeland, but a limited class for Dabo Swinney’s team could be beneficial for the Gators in his recruitment. Florida is also considered the favorite for 4-star wide receiver Anthony Schwartz, as he would likely be one of a few pass catchers the Gators hope to take in this class.

Florida also added to its 2019 class, which ranks No. 1 in the nation. On Saturday, the Gators got a commitment from 4-star wide receiver John Dunmore, one day after they landed 4-star athlete Tyrique Stevenson. All five of their 2019 commits are rated as 4-star recruits.
