Former Missouri wide receiver T.J. Moe joined the Gator Nation Football Podcast to discuss the Tigers’ matchup with Florida on Saturday.

The history between Florida and Missouri is brief, very brief, but it is in the Tigers’ favor. Mizzou leads the all-time series, 3-2, though Florida did take the win when they met in 2015, 21-3.

Both teams are in much different places than they were last season, however.

Matty Mauk was dismissed from Missouri and transferred. Will Grier was suspended for a whole calendar year … and then transferred. And Missouri has a new head coach for the first time since 2001. It is now the Barry Odom era in Columbia.

As Odom’s team works to find itself after a 2-3 start, the Gators are in search of a step forward in Jim McElwain’s second season.

So far, Florida has started 4-1, though according to former Missouri wide receiver T.J. Moe we cannot accurately assess the Gators right now. He spoke with the Gator Nation Football Podcast and broke down the Florida-Missouri game.

“What Missouri’s been good at thus far is the passing game. You could argue that Florida’s got the best back four in the SEC. They’re right there near the top … that Florida defense is good,” Moe said. “Now, they haven’t played anybody, really. I mean, you talk about playing Kentucky, and [Florida] didn’t play LSU, who’s also not a very good offense. I don’t think we know if Florida is any good yet, aside from the first half against Tennessee, they looked pretty good, and then they fell apart.”

Moe went on to say the SEC is filled with average teams, and he sees McElwain’s Gators as one of them.

“You look, and you’re like, ‘Who’s the good teams in the SEC?’ And at this point, I think we know Texas A&M’s pretty good. I think Tennessee could be very good,” Moe said. “We know Alabama’s good, and then I think you could make an argument for Ole Miss. I think everybody else is pretty average. There’s certainly [those who are] below average. You’ve got Kentucky. You’ve got Vanderbilt. Obviously, Missouri’s below average this year. South Carolina’s not very good. Arkansas [is] average. There’s just a lot of average teams. I think Florida might be one of those average teams.”

The former Missouri wide receiver reflected on his own experience playing with the Tigers in 2012 in Gainesville and downplayed the atmosphere in Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

“I don’t even think The Swamp’s like a crazy place to play, to be honest with you,” Moe said. “I know that’s not something … fans wanna’ hear. I mean, we, on that team, again, that won five games and had a lot of people injured, we had four shots from like the 20 [yard line] going in to tie the game, and it was just a normal game. I mean, the crowd wasn’t into it. For whatever reason, and I don’t know if that’s changed now in the last four years, but it was not a crazy place to play.”

The Gators beat the Tigers that day, 14-7. However, the last time Missouri played in The Swamp (2014) the Tigers rolled, 42-13.

But the last thing you want to do before your alma mater plays Florida is to tell its fans The Swamp isn’t rowdy enough for your standards. That could be a surefire way to ensure a more intense environment.
