FSU vs. Wake Forest prediction roundtable with the Campus Insiders staff. Breaking down what will happen in the game between the Seminoles and Demon Deacons.
The scores from the last three meetings between these schools at Doak Campbell: 31-0, 52-0, 43-3. Take a guess which team won them all. Wake Forest is definitely improving under Dave Clawson, and its five wins are more than it’s had in any of the previous three seasons. But the Demon Deacons aren’t quite ready to compete with teams like the Seminoles – especially on the road. FSU wins by a few touchdowns.
Wake Forest is a 21.5-point underdog to Florida State at Doak Campbell, and I don’t see the Demon Deacons covering. Jimbo Fisher had his players sign some kind of pledge not to give up on the season. It worked for FSU last week, and should continue against a good Demon Deacons team that’ll have eight or nine wins by season’s end.
DeMarcus Walker is going to sit down, pour himself a nice glass of red wine, put on his reading glasses, take a quick scan of the Wake Forest offensive line … and then eat it alive. The Demon Deacons aren’t ready for the beatdown FSU is about to put on them. Deondre Francois’ shoulder won’t keep him out of this game, and Dalvin Cook will tote the rock like a madman.
This isn’t your older brother’s Wake Forest squad. Head coach Dave Clawson has steadily improved the talent base in Winston-Salem, so the Demon Deacons’ record is legit. In last year’s contest, Seminoles running back Dalvin Cook had a 94-yard touchdown run in the first quarter before leaving with a left hamstring injury. The FSU offense stalled when he left, and this week Cook and Co. will be going up against a rush defense that ranks No. 23 in the FBS. Quarterback Deondre Francois will get enough production from Cook to open things up in the passing game, and the win over Miami last week may have served as a turning point for FSU. The ‘Noles humble the Demon Deacons this week.
Wake Forest is sneaky good, but not enough to hang with the Seminoles. Yes, I’m making mine short this week. FSU rolls.
