Indiana is hiring Archie Miller as the Hoosiers’ next head coach. Miller spent the past six seasons with the Dayton Flyers.

The Indiana Hoosiers have secured their next head coach, and he’s one of college basketball’s rising stars.

On Saturday, Indiana announced the hiring of Dayton head coach Archie Miller to the same position, making him the 27th head coach in the program’s storied history.

In six seasons with the Flyers, Miller compiled a 139-63 record and led Dayton to the NCAA Tournament in each of the past four seasons. The Flyers were given a No. 7 seed in this year’s tournament but were bounced from the first round by No. 10-seeded Wichita State.

Miller is a former NC State point guard, who made his mark as a three-point specialist for the Wolfpack from 1998 to 2002. Miller finished his collegiate career having shot 42.9 percent from behind the arc and with 218 career three-point field goals.

He immediately took an assistant coaching job with Western Kentucky in 2003 before returning to his alma mater in 2004. Assistant coaching positions with Arizona State, Ohio State and Arizona between 2006 and 2011 landed Miller the job at Dayton in 2011.

As for the Hoosiers, they fired Tom Crean almost two weeks ago after nine seasons. Crean went 166-135 during that time. This season, Indiana missed out on the NCAA Tournament for the fifth time in Crean’s tenure. In the four seasons the Hoosiers did make it to the dance, they never got further than the Sweet 16.
