Running back Jordan Cronkrite is reportedly transferring from Florida after two seasons with the Gators.

Two seasons in Gainesville were all Jordan Cronkrite could take … and that’s the way it is.

The former 3-star running back is transferring from Florida. Cronkrite was given a release from his scholarship on Tuesday.

Head coach Jim McElwain expressed nothing but support for Cronkrite, who will not play in the Outback Bowl against Iowa on Jan. 2.

“We wish Jordan nothing but the best and will do everything we can to support and assist him and help him get what he wants,” McElwain said.

The news of Cronkrite’s transfer comes less than a week after the Gators were throttled by Alabama in the SEC title game for the second year in a row.

In October, it was reported that Cronkrite was not with the team for the Georgia game, and Jordan Scarlett, who also signed with Florida in the 2015 recruiting class, referred to Cronkrite needing space to sort things out.

“[Cronkrite is] just going through some things right now, and I think he’ll be alright in the end,” Scarlett said. “I’m letting him have his space. I’ll let him have his personal time and just let him figure out what’s best for him.”

He later returned to the team and traveled to Fayetteville for the Arkansas game.

In 2015, as a true freshman, Cronkrite ran for 157 yards and three touchdowns on 44 carries. This past season, he took 31 touches for 145 rushing yards and a touchdown.

He’ll also finish his Gator career with 26 receptions for 209 yards and two receiving touchdowns.

For Florida, the emergence of Scarlett as a bell cow back this season softens the blow of Cronkrite’s transfer. Scarlett ran for 795 yards and six touchdowns on 165 carries.

The Gators also had a breakout performance from true freshman Lamical Perine, who rushed for 402 yards and a touchdown on 84 carries.

In terms of recruiting, Florida has a commitment from 3-star prospect Malik Davis, the No. 86 running back in the country and the No. 15 running back in the state of Florida. The Gators are also still in the mix for 3-star recruit Adarius Lemons, the No. 24 running back in the nation and the No. 4 running back in the Sunshine State.

Lemons decommitted from Florida this fall but could re-join the class providing his academics are in order.
