4-Star QB Kellen Mond Won’t Shy Away From Competition At Texas A&M

Four-star quarterback Kellen Mond spoke with Campus Insiders about Jarrett Stidham’s potential transfer to Texas A&M and embraced the idea. 


On Tuesday, it was reported that former 5-star prospect and Baylor quarterback Jarrett Stidham was choosing between the Auburn Tigers and the Texas A&M Aggies as likely transfer destinations.

Stidham was in College Station this past weekend for the Aggies’ 29-28 loss to Ole Miss, and he reportedly had an hour-long conversation with head coach Kevin Sumlin last week.

When he came out of the 2015 recruiting class, Stidham nearly signed with Texas A&M but ended up with Baylor, circumventing a position battle with former 5-star quarterbacks Kyle Allen and Kyler Murray, who have both since transferred from the program.

If he were to choose the Aggies this time around, Stidham would likely be starting from Day 1. The transfer would have an effect on 4-star recruit Kellen Mond, the No. 10 quarterback and No. 124 overall player in the 2017 recruiting class, but it wouldn’t be enough to deter Mond from ending up in College Station.

Mond was once committed to Baylor when Stidham was a Bear, and when he spoke to Campus Insiders, the IMG Academy quarterback cleared the air on potentially being teammates with Stidham.

“He’s a good quarterback, and I have a good relationship with him,” Mond said of Stidham. “If he came [to Texas A&M], it would add more depth at the QB position for A&M. It wouldn’t change my commitment, though. I committed to Baylor when he was there, so shying away from competition isn’t something I would do.”

Mond reportedly received a call from Sumlin and offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone about their pursuit of Stidham, but the 4-star quarterback neither confirmed nor denied that any conversation has taken place.

Regardless if it did or not, Mond is approaching the situation with a mature and competitive mindset – something his future coaches no doubt love seeing.
