Five-star JUCO cornerback Kendall Sheffield committed to Ohio State on Tuesday, giving the Buckeyes 19 total commits in the 2017 recruiting class.
The 2016 college football season is now over, and that means it’s officially all down to recruiting.
Ohio State wasted no time in adding to an already elite group of prospects on Tuesday when 5-star JUCO cornerback Kendall Sheffield committed to the Buckeyes, as first reported by ESPN.
With the addition of the Missouri City, Texas native, the Buckeyes now have eight 5-star commits in the cycle and sit at No. 4 in the 2017 recruiting class rankings, only 84 recruiting points behind No. 3 Michigan. Alabama is No. 1, and Georgia ranks right behind the Crimson Tide.
Sheffield, who transferred to Blinn College in August ’16 after redshirting during his one year with Alabama, is ready to help Ohio State compete for a national championship next season.
“After a great season at Blinn College and an exciting recruiting process, I have decided to finish my collegiate career at The Ohio State University,” Sheffield said. “I am excited to join Urban Meyer and the Buckeyes, and [I] look forward to helping Buckeye Nation return to the College Football Playoff.”
With cornerback Gareon Conley and safety Malik Hooker entering the draft, and cornerback Marshon Lattimore possibly following suit, Ohio State will add Sheffield to the secondary along with some other blue-chip defensive backs. He’ll join 5-star safety Jeffrey Okudah, 4-star cornerback Amir Riep, 4-star cornerback Shaun Wade, 4-star cornerback Marcus Williamson and 4-star safety Isaiah Pryor.
That’s quite a defensive secondary for Urban Meyer’s club.
