Four-star defensive end Lagaryonn Carson spoke with Campus Insiders regarding his recruitment and current situation with the Texas Longhorns.

On Tuesday, it was reported that 4-star prospect Lagaryonn Carson was no longer committed to Texas.

Carson, the No. 7 defensive end and No. 67 overall player in the country, was the first member of the Longhorns’ 2017 recruiting class. He originally pledged to Texas in October of 2015, back when Charlie Strong was still firmly in charge of the program.

He had been one of the Longhorns’ biggest proponents throughout the 2017 recruiting cycle and actively recruited other top-notch players to Austin, which is why his departure from the class was so meaningful.

Carson spoke with Campus Insiders on Tuesday regarding the situation.

“The Texas coaches informed me that I’m not on scholarship count, and they would contact me and my high school coach in January. But, as of now, I have no scholarship with Texas. So, I can’t be committed without one,” he said. “Texas is my school, but that’s what I was informed. I have no scholarship at the time [being], so I don’t know what’s next. But I did not decommit from Texas. I was the first of my class to commit there and recruited a lot of guys [to Texas]. I wouldn’t do those guys like that.”

The Texarkana, Texas prospect spoke with offensive line coach Derek Warehime regarding the situation. However, he has not yet discussed it with head coach Tom Herman.

Carson also opted to shed some light on rumored off-field issues that led to his departure from the class.

“I have just had a lot going on that took place, and I think the new staff fully understands. But I will bounce back. It’s forever Hook ‘Em. [I’m] just glad coach Strong, [Jeff] Traylor, and [the old] staff believed in me.”

When asked about other schools involved in his recruitment, Carson kept his burnt orange goggles on, refusing to acknowledge any potential new suitors.

“Right now, I just wanna’ ball and get [these] issues resolved with Texas. I only need other options if Texas is not willing to take me.”
