Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin’s name has popped up in the Houston head coaching search. Kiffin previously served as a head coach at Tennessee and USC, as well as with the Oakland Raiders in the NFL.

Lane Kiffin has become a popular man.

The Alabama offensive coordinator has already been mentioned as a possible hire by LSU Ed Orgeron for the same position, and now it is being reported that Houston is interested in the 41-year-old Kiffin as its new head coach, according to Brett McMurphy.

Since arriving in Tuscaloosa in 2014, Kiffin led one of the most potent offenses in the game. Two appearances in the College Football Playoff and last year’s national championship have been a result.

Kiffin served as a head coach at Tennessee in 2009 before leaving for the USC job, sparking scrutiny from the Volunteers’ fan base. Despite the Trojans being on probation stemming from the Pete Carroll era, Kiffin was able to put together two successful seasons in 2010 and 2011, including a 10-2 record in the latter.

USC began the 2012 season ranked No. 1 in the AP Poll, but a disappointing 7-6 season followed. With pressure mounting, a 3-2 start to the 2013 season ended Kiffin’s time in Los Angeles, as he was fired by athletic director Pat Haden after a loss to Arizona State.

Houston has also expressed interest in former LSU head coach Les Miles, who was fired in September after a 2-2 start, and former Baylor head coach Art Briles.
