Florida Atlantic is reportedly in talks with Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin regarding its head coaching position.

The Lane Kiffin circus continues, as a new player is now in play for the Alabama offensive coordinator to become its head coach.

Per FootballScoop, Florida Atlantic and Kiffin have been discussing its open position in charge of the Owls program after a season that saw them go 3-9 and fire head coach Charlie Partridge.

Kiffin has been a hot name during the coaching carousel that began in late November, but has yet to find a spot as either a head coach or offensive coordinator at another school. While he is still employed at Alabama, most signs point toward him leaving Tuscaloosa after this season.

It was reported on Thursday that Houston was set to hire Kiffin as its head coach, but that proved to be false. On Friday, the Cougars decided to remain in-house by promoting offensive coordinator Major Applewhite.

A school on the other side of the state from Boca Raton, where FAU’s campus resides, in USF has also shown interested in the 41-year-old Kiffin after Willie Taggart left for Oregon earlier this week. The Bulls have also been speaking with former Texas head coach Charlie Strong, who was in Tampa on Friday meeting with school officials.

Hiring Kiffin would be a home run for the Owls, who have just been a program since 2001 and boast an overall record of 76-115. With the fertile recruiting ground of South Florida right at his door step, there is no question that Kiffin would be able to lure players to FAU and build a contending program in Conference USA. He would also present a nice counterbalance to rival FIU, who hired Butch Davis in November, and figures to start pounding the pavement for recruits.
