2019 point guard Markese Jacobs has committed to Kansas. He is the first recruit to join the Jayhawks’ 2019 class.

Bill Self continues to work wonders on the recruiting trail, this time getting the Jayhawks’ class of 2019 off to a blazing start.

Markese Jacobs, a point guard in the 2019 class, announced his commitment to Kansas on Twitter over the weekend after taking an unofficial visit on October 1.

“First off I would like to thank God for blessing with the ability to play basketball, my family for always being there for me when I needed them, the coaches who recruited me and everyone who has helped me get to this point in life. After long thought and consideration and during the early stages of the recruiting process I am glad to announce that I am committing to the University of Kansas. #RockChalkJayhawk”

Though he does not yet have a star ranking due to his class, Jacobs is widely considered one of the best point guards in the class of 2019, combining a relentless scoring ability with great speed and agility. He stands at 6-foot-1 and acts as more of a go-to scorer and playmaker, rather than a conventional point guard.

In an interview with Scout, Jacobs said, “I feel like Kansas is the school I’ve always wanted to go to. I feel like they go through their guards. They are a great guard team. I feel like I fit their category in their guards.”

Jacobs is next on a long list of recruits to be plucked out of the Chicago area by Self and the Kansas coaching staff. The likes of Julian Wright, Jamari Traylor and, most recently, Cliff Alexander were also won over by the Jayhawks after playing high school ball in the Windy City.

When asked about why he committed at such an early stage in the recruiting process, Jacobs replied, “It’s an opportunity of a lifetime. I don’t want to wait and mess it up. I want to take it now and start preparing.”

Along with Kansas, Jacobs was also receiving heavy interest from local programs such as DePaul and Illinois. He is the first member of the Jayhawks’ class of 2019.
