Three-star linebacker Marqez Bimage committed to the Texas Longhorns on Friday, continuing coach Tom Herman’s hot streak during the recruiting dead period.
Tom Herman has landed another in-state prospect. On Friday, 3-star outside linebacker Marqez Bimage committed to the Texas Longhorns via social media.
“I want to thank God and those who have supported me throughout this process. I want to thank every university that has recruited me. This adventure has been really fun. With all this being said I will be attending and earning my DEGREE [sic] from The University of Texas. UT21 #HookEm,” wrote Bimage.
From the moment Herman took the job in Austin – and especially after defensive coordinator Todd Orlando joined him – it was really a matter of when, not if, Bimage would align himself with the Longhorns. He committed to the Houston Cougars back in December of 2015, and held that pledge for nearly a year before decommitting on December 23. That decommitment came only 12 days after receiving an offer from Herman and Texas – further elevating the notion that players often commit to a coach, not a university.
Out of Brenham, Texas, Bimage is the No. 8 linebacker in Texas, and No. 43 linebacker in the nation for the 2017 class. He’s the 13th commit in Herman’s inaugural class, and the first linebacker. Texas has now moved up to No. 32 in the 2017 class rankings.
