Memphis vs. Tulsa prediction and game preview. Projecting who wins the matchup between the Tigers and Golden Hurricane.

Memphis vs. Tulsa Game Preview

When: Saturday, October 29 – 8:00 p.m. ET
Where: Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium, Memphis, TN
TV Broadcast: ESPNEWS

Memphis couldn’t stop Navy’s rushing attack in the 42-28 loss on Saturday, as the Midshipmen rushed for 447 yards and four touchdowns. Quarterback Riley Ferguson threw for 333 yards and two touchdowns for the Tigers in a losing effort.

Tulsa put it on Tulane, 50-27, as Dane Evans threw for 236 yards and three touchdowns and James Flanders rushed for 190 yards and two touchdowns. The defense gave up 355 rushing yards, but kept the Green Wave from getting anything going in the air, holding them to 37 passing yards.

What To Know About Memphis

Ferguson was good in the loss, but the running game could get nothing going, gaining only 98 yards total. The Tigers have struggled all season to get the run game going, ranking No. 88 in the nation averaging 154.86 yards per game. While Ferguson can win games, Memphis needs to be more balanced, especially against a Tulsa defense that gives up 200 yards per game on the ground. Running back Doroland Dorceus needs to step up and became a force.

What to Know About Tulsa

The combination of Evans and Flanders was enough for the Golden Hurricane to run all over Tulane. Tulsa gained 330 total yards on the ground, with Flanders getting most of that himself. Memphis isn’t much better at stopping the run, giving up 183.86 yards per game. The Golden Hurricane will run to set up the pass and give Evans a lot of open field.

Advantages

Offense: Tulsa. The more balance, the better.

Defense: Tie. Both are lackluster units that give up a lot of points.

Special Teams: Memphis. Kicker Jake Elliott is 10-for-13 on field goal attempts this season with a long of 50 yards.

Coaching: Memphis. I like the job Mike Norvell is doing after replacing Justin Fuente.

Intangibles: Tulsa. Keep the momentum going after a big one.

Matchup To Watch

Memphis rushing attack vs. Tulsa run defense

Making the Tigers one dimensional would be huge for the Golden Hurricane. Tulsa’s run defense has been a sieve – giving up 200 yards per game – and if it can’t shore things up this game could get out of hand quickly.

Memphis vs. Tulsa Betting Odds

Spread: Memphis -6.5
Over/Under: 72

Memphis vs. Tulsa Prediction

Memphis is still good, as a lot of teams are going to get run over by the Navy attack, especially right now when it is hitting its peak. If Tulsa wants to win this game, they must keep Dorceus from making any impact. I don’t see it. Memphis wins in a shootout.

Memphis vs. Tulsa Score Prediction: Memphis 42, Tulsa 35
