Miami football recruiting update for the week of Oct. 9, 2016.

Saturday night didn’t end the way Hurricanes fans wanted. Miami was surging late and had seized the momentum when Brad Kaaya hooked up with Stacy Coley for a touchdown, but the extra point was blocked, and Florida State won, 20-19.

Still, with all of that being said, recruits don’t really care who wins or loses. They simply want to see that a team is competitive and can make moves, and Mark Richt’s Hurricanes proved they can keep pace.

That didn’t have a big impact on 4-star athlete Christopher Henderson, who decommitted from Miami last week. Florida has been trying to flip him for some time now, and it appears as though he’ll end up with the Gators.

Miami is closing in on a commitment from 3-star safety Amari Carter, though. The No. 71 safety in the nation is scheduled to make a decision on Oct. 22, and the ‘Canes are expected to keep Carter close to home.

Four-star offensive tackle Kai-Leon Herbert, a Michigan commit, was in attendance at the Miami-FSU game. Both the Hurricanes and Gators are trying to flip him from the Wolverines. He was joined by a long list of recruits, including 4-star cornerback Latavious Brini, who decommitted from Georgia last week. Surprise, surprise, but Miami is also fighting off Florida for Brini’s commitment.

Miami also hosted a number of big-time 2018 prospects including 5-star cornerback Patrick Surtain Jr., 4-star running back Lorenzo Lingard and 4-star wide receiver Mark Pope.
