Miami vs. North Carolina Prediction Roundtable – What’s Going To Happen

Miami vs. North Carolina prediction roundtable with the Campus Insiders staff. Breaking down what will happen in the game between the Hurricanes and Tar Heels.

The Miami Hurricanes (4-1) and North Carolina Tar Heels (4-2) enter their ACC matchup with one conference loss apiece. Miami sits at 1-1, while North Carolina is 2-1 in ACC play.

Miami is coming off its first loss of the season, a heartbreaker to Florida State, who blocked what would have been a game-tying extra point.

After dropping the season opener to Georgia and then reeling off four straight wins, North Carolina dropped its second game of the year last week, a blowout loss to Virginia Tech.

The Tar Heels hold a 10-9 lead in the all-time series, however the Hurricanes have gone 7-4 on home turf.

Mitch Trubisky, what the heck happened, bud?! How did you go 13-of-33 for 58 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions in last week’s loss to Virginia Tech after throwing for 13 touchdowns and zero picks over the first five games? The Tar Heels’ stunning loss still wasn’t as bad as what happened to Miami, which had the tying extra point blocked to give Florida State the victory last week. And, to make matters worse, Brad Kaaya even lost a tooth in the process.

Kaaya is going to outshine Trubisky in this one and Miami is going to win a game on which I’m putting money down to hit the over.

Jonathan Bass

What’s worse: Getting your teeth kicked in at home and completely tumbling out of the rankings, or losing at home to an arch-rival on account of a missed PAT?

Brad Kaaya is dinged up, but luckily he’s playing against Gene Chizik’s lackluster defense. UNC is one of the nation’s worst against the run, so there will be a healthy dose of Mark Walton and Joseph Yearby to spell Kaaya. Miami takes it in a shootout.

Robert Judin

As an NFL Draft nerd, I’m absolutely drooling over this matchup. Brad Kaaya — if he declares for the draft — has top-five pick written all over him. He can hit every throw on the route tree. On the other side, Mitch Trubisky is the fastest rising quarterback in the draft conversation. Depending on how the rest of the season shakes out, we could be in store for a battle between two first-round quarterbacks. As for the actual game, I made the mistake of picking against UNC before the Tar Heels beat FSU in Tally. Momma didn’t raise no fool. I’m picking the Tar Heels. Besides, if the transitive property applies, North Carolina beat Florida State, who beat Miami, so UNC should be in line for a win here.

Dave Miller

This is a big game that could go a long way toward determining the ACC Coastal division champ. After last week’s tough loss to Florida State, the Hurricanes know that they are that much closer to becoming an upper-tier ACC team. Look for Mitch Trubisky and the Tar Heels offense to bounce back from last week’s rough loss to Virginia Tech in sloppy conditions, but Gene Chizik’s defense will be a little leaky in a high-scoring affair. I like the ‘Canes to get back on track in a close win.

Brian Stultz

UNC wins. Now, for the more important business: we need to get a bench press competition between the Tar Heels head coach Larry Fedora and UL-Lafayette head coach Mark Hudspeth. This will definitely be a must-watch event, and we can air it right here on Campus Insiders. I am pitching the idea to my bosses this afternoon. Let’s cross our fingers this happens.
