Four-star quarterback Myles Brennan decommitted from LSU on Wednesday, leaving the Tigers with 17 total commits in the 2017 recruiting class.

The Ed Orgeron era officially began last week when the Tigers removed the interim tag from his title and named him the program’s new head coach.

Now, Orgeron is tasked with finishing out the 2017 recruiting cycle, of which there are only two months remaining. He’s also now only working with 17 total commits, as he lost a 4-star prospect from the class on Wednesday.

Myles Brennan, the No. 16 quarterback and No. 255 overall player in the nation, decommitted from LSU. Despite the loss, the Tigers still remain at No. 8 in the recruiting class rankings.

Brennan, a Bay St. Louis, Mississippi native, released a statement regarding his decision to back off his pledge to LSU.

“Let me start by saying thank you to all the fans of the LSU Tigers. You have been unbelievably supportive of me and my family since the day I committed to LSU. I love the people of Louisiana and what that football team means to everyone that is a fan. I also want to personally thank Coach Les Miles and Coach Cam Cameron for believing in my abilities as a QB and offering me a scholarship to play at LSU; it’s truly one of the most special places in the world. It is however become very apparent to me that LSU is going through a transition and, as a result, I have decided to re-open my recruiting.”

Brennan originally committed to LSU on April 23, when Les Miles was still the head coach. However, the Mad Hatter was fired four games into the season.

The 6-foot-4, 185-pound quarterback was named the state of Mississippi’s Class 4A Mr. Football earlier this month. He holds additional offers from Cal, Kentucky, Memphis, Ole Miss, West Virginia and Wisconsin, among others. It appears, though, that his home-state Rebels are the favorite to land Brennan now.
