Five-star running back Najee Harris reportedly won’t announce his college commitment publicly. He’s taking an old school approach instead.
UPDATE – 1/8/17 – Najee Harris ends speculation on Sunday, arrives at school.
Najee Harris’ speculation-filled recruitment has gotten even weirder.
The 5-star recruit, ranked as the No. 1 running back and No. 1 overall player in the country, won’t announce his college commitment following the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Saturday as previously thought.
Harris, who’s deciding between Alabama and Michigan, will instead keep his decision private and simply show up on campus in either Ann Arbor or Tuscaloosa next week as an early enrollee, according to Brandon Justice of Landof10.
So, if you were perusing his Instagram or Snapchat accounts hoping to figure out which school he’ll pick, keep dreaming. Harris is taking an old-fashioned approach to his recruitment.
As frustrating at it is for recruiting enthusiasts to watch the 5-star running back to take this route, it is a bit comforting as well.
Harris has never been one to seek out the limelight or try to get attention. He couldn’t care less about how often his name is mentioned by the media.
He cares about playing football. That’s it.
And whether he chooses the Crimson Tide or Wolverines, one of those fan bases is going to enjoy having someone of Harris’ makeup on their respective teams.
He’s the kind of player who is in love with the game of football and will keep his head down as he works toward improving as a player.
For the next three or four years, we’ll all enjoy watching him. Now we just have to wait a few more days to find out if he’ll be in crimson and white or maize and blue.
