Five-star Alabama commits Alex Leatherwood and Tua Tagovailoa discussed Najee Harris’ potential commitment flip situation with Michigan.
A decision for 5-star running back Najee Harris is looming. He won’t make a big production out of it. That isn’t his style.
But, sometime soon, the nation’s No. 1 player is going to decided between Alabama and Michigan. The Wolverines feel confident they can flip Harris from the Crimson Tide, but there are a few Alabama commits who believe that won’t go down.
Five-star prospects Alex Leatherwood and Tua Tagovailoa don’t see Harris flipping his commitment to Michigan. The two spoke with SEC Country and laid out exactly how they envision Harris’ recruitment unfolding.
“I know Najee is going to stick with ‘Bama,” Leatherwood said “We are his family. I’m confident because I know Najee. Media and social networks manipulate what’s real into what makes a good story.”
Leatherwood, the country’s No. 3 offensive tackle, was rumored for a potential flip, himself. The Florida Gators pursued intently, but the 6-foot-6, 315-pound offensive lineman stayed true to his commitment, as he thinks Harris will.
Tagovailoa, the No. 4 quarterback in the 2017 recruiting class, has also been pursued by many (namely Florida, LSU, Oregon, etc.) for a potential flip. However, he’s been all about the Crimson Tide and agreed with Leatherwood on Harris’ future decision.
“I think he’s going to stay committed to Alabama,” Tagovailoa said. “He has a great relationship with many of us who are being recruited to Alabama. I talked to him last month, and he didn’t say anything about Michigan.”
Granted, that doesn’t mean much. Harris has been quiet about his recruitment, and if he were going to flip, he couldn’t have been any more careful with his words.
When the 5-star running back spoke with Campus Insiders, he refused to answer any questions regarding a potential flip to Michigan or how solid his pledge was to Alabama.
Even if Harris decides not to alter his commitment, he’s at least considering the prospect. That much is apparent.
