NC State vs. Boston College prediction and game preview. Projecting who wins between the Wolfpack and Eagles on Saturday in Raleigh, NC.

NC State vs. Boston College Game Preview

When: Saturday, Oct. 29 – 12:30 p.m. ET
Where: Carter-Finley Stadium, Raleigh, NC
TV Broadcast: ACC Extra

The Wolfpack (4-3, 1-2 ACC) received a lesson in Lamar 101 last week, as Louisville and Heisman Trophy-leading quarterback Lamar Jackson made things look real easy in a 54-13 win at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium. The Cardinals had three interceptions that led to 17 points, while Jackson completed 20 of 34 passes for 355 yards.

Meanwhile, the Eagles (3-4, 0-4) are coming off of a tough 28-20 home loss to Syracuse, which received three touchdown passes from Eric Dungey, who went 32-of-38 passing for 434 yards. The Eagles have now lost 12 straight conference games.

In last year’s meeting, Jacoby Brissett threw an 83-yard scoring pass to Maurice Trowell early in the second quarter to help the Wolfpack send BC to its sixth straight loss in a 24-8 final.

What To Know About NC State

The Wolfpack held the Clemson rushing attack in check two weeks ago, as the Tigers finished with just 117 yards on 39 attempts. Of course, Wayne Gallman missed most of the game. And while most of the Tigers’ four turnovers were of their own doing, the Wolfpack defense still had a hand in them. Overall, Dave Doeren’s defense was outstanding. However, the wheels came off against Jackson last week. NC State was outgained 244 to minus-1 after one quarter, outgained overall 553-250 and held to just 14 rushing yards on 25 attempts. Quarterback Ryan Finley entered the Clemson game having not thrown an interception all year, but he threw two against the Tigers—including one on the final play of the game—and he threw two more last week in the loss to Louisville. He needs to play much cleaner against a tough BC defense if the ‘Pack are to break their two-game skid.

What to Know About Boston College

The Eagles had no semblance of a passing game in the loss to Syracuse. Quarterback Patrick Towles went 4-of-14 through the air for 45 yards, although he did add a 75-yard touchdown run. He was taken out of the game early in the fourth quarter, though, after appearing to injure his hamstring. We’ll see just how healthy he is for this matchup. Darius Wade came in after Towles was hurt, and he would be in line to start if Towles cannot go. Only once this year has Towles completed more than 56.3 percent of his throws, and that was in the season opener against Georgia Tech. His best performances have come against Buffalo, Wagner and UMass, so it’s been a real struggle in conference play.

Advantages

Offense: NC State. The Wolfpack are averaging 409.3 yards per game, while the Eagles cannot seem to field a productive offense.

Defense: Boston College. An argument could have been made that this would be more even, but the Wolfpack could not do anything to contain Jackson and the Cardinals. Even though Clemson recorded 508 total yards against BC, the Eagles are giving up on average just 292.9 yards per contest.

Special Teams: Boston College. NC State kickers have missed six field goals on the year.

Coaching: NC State. Doeren almost had a signature win against Clemson. How will his team respond to the blowout loss to Louisville?

Intangibles: NC State. The Eagles are a beaten-down bunch right now.

Matchup To Watch

Myles Willis vs. NC State special teams

Boston College’s Willis had an 89-yard kickoff return for a touchdown last week against Syracuse, which essentially served as the team’s offense with that unit struggling. If the Eagles want to break their ACC skid, special teams is a place to start. Willis has been dangerous since arriving on campus from Georgia, making an impact as a return man since his freshman year. The Eagles are No. 124 in total offense, so scoring on special teams or defense is almost essential.

Betting Odds

Spread: NC State -15.5
Over/Under: No Line (as of post)

NC State vs. Boston College Prediction

The Eagles are desperately trying to break their 12-game losing streak in ACC competition, but it won’t happen on Saturday. The Wolfpack will take out their frustrations from the last two weeks, as Finley navigates the offense through a stout defense and bounces back from its second-lowest yardage total this season.

NC State vs. Boston College Score Prediction: NC State 30, Boston College 16
