Notre Dame vs. Stanford Prediction Roundtable – What’s Going To Happen

Notre Dame vs. Stanford prediction roundtable with the Campus Insiders staff. Breaking down what will happen in the game between the Fighting Irish and Cardinal.

After entering the 2016 season with high expectations, Notre Dame and Stanford come into their Week 7 matchup unranked and looking for answers. The Fighting Irish are 2-4, while the Cardinal have lost their last two games to drop to 3-2.

Notre Dame holds a 19-11 lead in the all-time series, however Stanford took the 2015 matchup and has won five of the last seven meetings.

Jeff Bartl

I can’t begin to tell you how excited I am this game basically means nothing now. It’s great that I don’t have to pretend to care. I’m convinced Brian Kelly is just riding out the string at Notre Dame. He probably has half his office packed, all ready to slide out the back door when some NFL team is dumb enough to give him a job after the season. I hope Christian McCaffrey is healthy enough to put up something like 450 all-purpose yards and four touchdowns while Stanford crushes the Fighting Irish.

Jonathan Bass

Brian Kelly blames players for loss. Brian Kelly blames defensive coordinator for loss. Brian Kelly blames himself for loss. Brian Kelly blames Hurricane Matthew for loss. Brian Kelly blames the Stanford Tree and its damn googly eyes for loss.

Robert Judin

Talk about a matchup between two of the most underwhelming teams in college football. I’m just going to chalk this one up to star power. Christian McCaffrey is dealing with a leg injury and is coming off back-to-back subpar performances. If he can go, that will clearly have a huge impact on the game. Ultimately I’m riding out with Notre Dame here. DeShone Kizer will likely be a top-five pick, and the guy can flat-out ball. McCaffrey, if healthy, makes the game a lot closer, but the Irish win either way.

Dave Miller

Stanford head coach David Shaw said running back Christian McCaffrey is “pretty beaten up” and is questionable for this game after missing much of the second half of a 42-16 loss last week to Washington State. He’s obviously one of the best players in the country, and this is an ND defense that does not provide much resistance. If he is less than 100 percent, it instantly makes the Stanford offense much less potent. C.J. Sanders has a big kickoff return to help the Irish score a victory at night in South Bend.

Brian Stultz

More annoying alumnus: Notre Dame’s Regis Kelly or Stanford’s John Elway? That is a toss up right there. It’s like debating which of these teams was more overrated heading into the season (that is always Notre Dame). I’m not even sure what to think of this game. Does Brian Kelly drive an actual bus over a player this week in the postgame press conference? Can Christian McCaffrey recover and return to form? I suppose I take Notre Dame, but there are a LOT less Fighting Irish hats being worn around Chicago by ND “fans” right now.
