Four-star outside linebacker Pete Werner committed to Ohio State on Sunday, giving the Buckeyes 17 total commits in the 2017 recruiting class.

The Buckeyes are headed into the recruiting dead period on a high note.

On Sunday, 4-star prospect Pete Werner committed to Ohio State, according to Landof10.com.

Werner spent this past weekend on an official visit in Columbus, and it apparently went very well considering he decided to join the Buckeyes’ 2017 recruiting class, which now has 17 total commits.

With the addition of Werner, Ohio State added 200 recruiting points and have now jumped up from No. 3 to No. 2 in the recruiting class rankings, hopping over Georgia in the process. The Buckeyes are now 473 points behind Alabama’s No. 1-ranked class.

Werner is ranked as the No. 21 outside linebacker and No. 266 overall player in the 2017 recruiting cycle.

At 6-foot-3, 210 pounds, Werner is highly athletic and has experience playing both safety and cornerback. He has the ability to diagnose plays and react accordingly, which plays into his great closing speed. Werner moves well and ranges from sideline to sideline with a solid motor, but he can also bring the pain. When he hits, he hits hard, and that’s a quality that will mesh well with 5-star linebacker Baron Browning, who pledged to the Buckeyes on Dec. 1.

Werner originally committed to Notre Dame on March 21 but backed off his pledge to the Fighting Irish on Nov. 29.

Ohio State has 12 commits from the top 100 players and 16 within the top 300 following Werner’s decision.
