Projected AP Top 25 college football rankings heading into Week 8 of the season. The new AP Poll should look a lot like this when it is released on Sunday.

In the College Football Playoff era, a contender just needs to survive and advance.

That’s exactly what Clemson did on Homecoming Saturday, as the Tigers overcame an early injury to star running back Wayne Gallman and four turnovers to thwart an NC State upset bid that ended with a 24-17 Tigers overtime win after cornerback Marcus Edmond picked off Ryan Finley’s throw in the end zone. With the win, the Tigers remain the team to beat in the ACC Atlantic division.

Meanwhile, Alabama steamrolled Tennessee, proving that it is the most complete team in the nation. Whether Nick Saban’s squad is scoring on offense, defense or special teams, things are clicking in all three phases for the Crimson Tide.

And in Madison, Ohio State survived a scare from Wisconsin, which should not drop too far in the rankings after close losses to Michigan and the Buckeyes.
