Temple vs. UConn prediction and game preview. Projecting who wins the matchup between the Owls and Huskies.

Temple vs. UConn Game Preview

When: Friday, November 4 – 7:00 p.m. ET
Where: Rentschler Field, East Hartford, CT
TV Broadcast: ESPN2

Temple used a great defensive effort to defeat Cincinnati 34-13 and keep the Bearcats to 186 total yards of offense. Running back Jahad Thomas led the Owls offense with 151 rushing yards while quarterback Phillip Walker threw for 199 yards and two touchdowns.

UConn was blown out for its third loss in a row by ECU 41-3. The Huskies could not find any offensive rhythm, gaining only 295 total yards while turning the ball over three times.

What To Know About Temple

Walker and Thomas are the senior leaders of the offense, and as they go, the offensive unit goes. The balanced effort makes it hard for defenses to figure out what exactly the Owls are going to do, as Temple averages 33.8 points per game. Against the Huskies, expect Walker to air the ball out, as Connecticut hasn’t been able to stop anyone all season in the passing game, allowing 290.2 yards through the air per game.

What to Know About UConn

The Huskies offense has been atrocious all season, ranking No. 106 in yards per game with 361.2 and averaging just 18.3 points per game. That won’t get any easier going against a Temple defense that has regularly contained powerful offenses through the year. Quarterback Bryant Shirreffs has been the lone highlight, throwing for seven touchdowns and rushing for two more.

Advantages

Offense: Temple. The Walker/Thomas duo can be explosive at times.

Defense: Temple. Holding any team to 186 total yards is a major accomplishment.

Special Teams: Tie. UConn kicker Bobby Puyol has been consistent, making 13-of-16 field goals.

Coaching: Temple. Matt Rhule has the Owls bowl eligible and looking for more.

Intangibles: Temple. Win out and the AAC East could belong to the Owls.

Matchup To Watch

Phillip Walker vs. UConn pass defense

The Huskies are No. 117 out of 128 in the nation in passing yards allowed per game.

Temple vs. UConn Betting Odds

Spread: Temple -10
Over/Under: 46

Temple vs. UConn Prediction

A good defense almost always beats a good offense, but when it is a bad offense the good defense is facing, it could get extremely ugly. Temple will dominate when the Huskies have the ball, and Walker will have a good game through the air. Temple gets another win and could be looking at the AAC Championship game at the end of the season.

Temple vs. UConn Score Prediction: Temple 35, UConn 7
