Texas A&M DE Myles Garrett is leaving College Station. The Aggies star has declared for the 2017 NFL Draft.

The SEC is losing one of its most ferocious defenders to the next level.

Texas A&M defensive end Myles Garrett announced on Saturday evening that he will leave school early and enter the 2017 NFL Draft.

The Aggies junior registered 32.5 sacks and 48.5 tackles for loss over the past three seasons and could very easily be a Top-10 draft pick, as NFL teams know that strong pass rushers don’t exactly grow on trees.

The 6-foot-5, 270-pound Texas native registered 8.5 sacks this past fall despite playing a good portion of the season with an ankle injury.

“After talking with my family and my coaches, I feel it is in my best interest to declare for the 2017 NFL draft,” Garrett said in a statement. “I would like to thank my teammates for always supporting me, encouraging me and holding me accountable. We are a family and I will be close with these guys forever.”

Back in 2014, Garrett broke former South Carolina star Jadeveon Clowney’s SEC freshman sack record with 11.5. The only player who had more sacks over the last three seasons was Tennessee defensive end Derek Barnett, who notched 33.

Garrett’s quickness off of the line of scrimmage and nice arsenal of pass rush moves have made him one of the most sought-after college prospects. He has also steadily improved as a run defender.

Before the Aggies’ loss to Kansas State in the Texas Bowl, Garrett caused a stir when he joked that he would prefer not to go to a cold-weather climate for his NFL career. He later clarified that he would play for whichever team drafted him.
