Four-star offensive tackle T.J. Moore decommitted from South Carolina on Sunday, putting a bow on a difficult weekend for the Gamecocks.

Sunday didn’t quite go as planned for Will Muschamp’s Gamecocks. They fell to Georgia, 28-14, and then their 2017 recruiting class took a hit.

Four-star recruit T.J. Moore decommitted from South Carolina, leaving the Gamecocks with 22 total commits. Losing Moore from the class knocked South Carolina down four spots in the 2017 recruiting class rankings to No. 21.

Moore, the No. 32 offensive tackle and No. 293 overall player in the nation, released a statement regarding his decision.

“As of Oct. 9, I am opening my recruitment back up. I want to thank South Carolina. They are still one of my top schools, but I would like to take a couple of official visits and make the best decision for me. Thank you to everyone that has been recruiting me, and God bless!”

The Charlotte, North Carolina native holds additional offers from North Carolina, NC State, Tennessee, Virginia Tech and others. He originally committed to the Gamecocks on Aug. 1.

It seems as though Butch Jones’ Volunteers are in a prime position to land Moore. The Vols hosted him for an unofficial visit on April 16, two days after they extended a scholarship offer to him.

At 6-foot-6, 280 lbs Moore can do work on the line as both a pass blocker and run blocker. He has excellent control of his frame and body. He needs to keep his pad level down and keep his numbers to the sky, but Moore is highly athletic. He’s versatile enough to play inside and outside, though with his run blocking ability, playing guard may be the best option for him.
