Now that he’s committed, No. 1 quarterback and overall player Trevor Lawrence is actively recruiting for the Clemson Tigers.

Quite often when a top player commits early and unwaveringly to a school he turns from a recruit to a recruiter.

Lagaryonn Carson was the biggest salesman for Texas during the 2017 cycle. Once Tate Martell firmly planted his flag in Columbus he became the Buckeyes’ most vocal cheerleader. And nearly immediately after committing to FSU, Cam Akers set his sights on reeling in other top-flight recruits.

Such is the nature of recruiting in the Information Age, where players can circumnavigate the restrictions placed on coaches during dead periods.

When Clemson locked up the nation’s No. 1 player for 2018, quarterback Trevor Lawrence, it also gained what will likely be the program’s best recruiter this side of Dabo Swinney and Brent Venables. Lawrence has apparently hit the ground running in extolling the virtues of Clemson.

In an interview with Dawg Nation, 4-star safety Derrik Allen said that he and Lawrence have spoken, and that the quarterback is itching to reunite the ‘Acworth Duo’ from their younger playing days.

“I’ve already spoken to him about it and we will see where it goes from there,” Allen said. “I don’t want to spoil anything.

“He asked me how I feel about Clemson and said he wanted to get the ‘Acworth Duo’ back because we played rec league back together in Acworth when we were nine years old.”

Hailing from Marietta, Georgia, Allen is listed as the nation’s No. 4 safety and No. 44 player overall. Earlier in December he released a top 10 list that, along with Clemson, included the likes of Cal, FSU, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, NC State, Notre Dame, Penn State and Ohio State.

While Allen offered little in the way of whether or not Lawrence’s pitch will be enough to put Clemson in the driver’s seat, he did say that home-state Georgia is near the top of his list.

“They are definitely up there,” Allen said. “They are definitely up at the top with my top schools.”

Somewhat ironically, Lawrence’s decision was down to UGA and Clemson before settling on the latter. Time will tell if Kirby Smart can lock down the borders and prevent another one of North Georgia’s premier talents from crossing over to the Palmetto State.
