UGA football recruiting update as of December 18, 2016. Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs picked up another huge commitment in the middle of the recruiting dead period.

Kirby Smart didn’t see his first season as a head coach go the way he may have wanted it to, as Georgia finished 7-5 and will battle TCU on Dec. 30 in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl.

However, Smart and his staff have recruited at an elite level so far in his tenure. And they picked up a huge pledge on Friday — both literally and figuratively.

Four-star offensive tackle Isaiah Wilson, a Brooklyn, New York native, committed to Georgia. The 6-foot-7, 354-pound offensive lineman chose the Bulldogs over Alabama, Michigan and others. Georgia now has commitments from six 4-star offensive linemen in the cycle.

UGA did, however, miss out on the No. 1 overall player in the 2018 class. On Thursday night, 5-star quarterback Trevor Lawrence committed to Clemson over Georgia.

But with Jacob Eason building off of his freshman campaign and 5-star quarterback Jake Fromm set to take the reins from Eason at some point, it was difficult to imagine the Bulldogs beating out Dabo Swinney’s Tigers for the No. 1 quarterback in 2018.
